A DIARY IS AN INFINITE SADNESS,

A POSTCARD AN INTENSE JOY

A postcard is a heart laden with words and silence, a spark where we breathe from afar the longing for a face, a labyrinth of shadows and paths. It is an inexhaustible source, a wrinkle of time, bread on the table, a dizzying array of fruits and memories. Between sleep and death, secrets of destiny are revealed, as in letters or in the most intimate pockets.

Adelino Marques’s postcards prolong what always remains incomplete: an idea of memory, a study of timelessness lived moment by moment. They show places, objects, absences — the ever-changing sea and sky, captured by a gaze in silent confrontation with the world.

Each observer sees themselves reflected in the waves, the sand, the birds. What we observe is diffuse, ironic, ancestral. Adelino, a compulsive intimist, gathers the subtlety of time, the moments in turmoil, the fever that the gaze heals without rest.

In a kaleidoscope in perpetual flux, his postcards are a silent listening to an endless murmur. They are marks of time without anguish, always attentive to the essential, the minute, the diaphanous. They are an intimate expression of a profound visual language, where the gaze becomes spiritual and human communication.

As the gaze is not a desert, but a magical and shareable place, these postcards transcend the mechanical record: they are a living, sprawling, exuberant expression. They reveal the human landscape as a timeless story, where we wander with a gaze that is already bodiless.

Adelino Marques sketches, shares and stages what dazzles him. He lends to the deciphering the brilliance of a flame — sometimes absent — with which we illuminate the night of days. He is a surveyor of melancholy, suspending in the air the silent gesture of hands.
