The new, lengthy poem *The Art of the Archer* concludes the tetralogy begun with *A Day in Eternity* and continued by *Last Autumn* and *On Beauty*, all published by Afrontamento.

In this final work, Amadeu Baptista returns to the central themes that have marked his poetic trajectory—childhood and adolescence, memory, human bonds, Greek allegories, solitude, loss, sadness, and love—bringing to them, however, the inescapable force of contemporary experience.

Born in Porto on May 6, 1953, he published his first book, *As Passagens Secretas*, in 1982. Among the more than forty books of poetry he has published since then, highlights include: *Poemas de Caravaggio*, winner of the Natércia Freire National Poetry Prize in 2007 and the João Lúcio Literary Prize in 2008; *Açougue*, winner of the Espiral Maior Prize in Spain in 2008; and *Um Pouco Acima da Miséria*, winner of the City of Ourense Poetry Prize in Spain in 2013.

His most recent book, *As Sombras Nítidas* (2025), was awarded the António Salvado International Poetry Prize – City of Castelo Branco. In 2023, he published a vast anthology commemorating his 40 years of literary activity, *Danos Patrimoniais*, which was awarded the Gil Vicente Grand Poetry Prize (APE/CM Guimarães).

Some of his children's and young adult titles are part of the National Reading Plan. He maintains scattered collaborations in newspapers, magazines, collective books, and anthologies in Germany, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the USA, Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Portugal, Romania, and Uruguay. His poetry has been translated into German, Spanish, Catalan, Croatian, French, Greek, Hebrew, English, Italian, Mandarin, Mirandese, and Romanian.

He is a translator of Spanish, Greek, and Scandinavian poets, having published five anthologies of the latter: *Through Our Hearts Passes the Line of Fire – Anthology of Icelandic Poetry* (2020); *The Destiny of the Tree is to Transform into Paper – Anthology of Swedish Poetry* (2021); *The Sleeping World Waits Impatiently – Anthology of Finnish Poetry* (2021); *Your Lips, Your Tongue – Anthology of Danish Poetry* (2022); and *No Vertigo Affects Us – Anthology of Norwegian Poetry* (2022).

Currently, a volume of translations of poems by Yannis Ritsos, *I Understand That I Am Mute and That They Hear Me*, is being distributed.

As a photographer, he participated in numerous group exhibitions in the 1980s and is represented in the 1985 Portuguese Photography Yearbook.
