Movements in Space and Time by

Manuela Matos Monteiro, Paula Roush, and João Lafuente

This exhibition is part of the "Ground, Earth, and People" project and reflects the work we have been developing with the Porto Hostels. Based on the concepts—Ground, Earth, and People—that give the project its name, we find in our practice the making and reflection of the place where we are and where we develop our activities.

This exhibition is more than a report on the meetings, workshops, conversations, and encounters we have consistently shared with the surrounding community, exploring the land together with neighbors, the public, artists from MIRA, and hostel residents.

The exhibition takes place inside MIRA and in the ruins of the hostel property, where we explore the garden, watch films, and share knowledge and eat together.

In these spaces, we present photography, videos, and installations that reflect this intense relationship between the ground and the earth as mediators. At ALbergArte, the art gallery at the Albergues headquarters, this exhibition is under the theme "This is not a herbarium".

By intersecting multiple realities, we aim to create a multilayered map of a small urban area, in a world where so many realities intersect. In these exhibitions, we seek to articulate practice with artistic expressions, which is one of the objectives of this project. Our focus is to consider reality in terms of place, of the nearby community where we systematically intervene, without losing sight of other places in the world.

This exhibition is part of the "Ground, Land, and People" project, supported by the Portuguese Republic dgARTES/RPAC - Portuguese Contemporary Art Network.
